Marek Michalak

Marek Michalak is a Polish educator and social activist. From 2008 to 2018, he was the Ombudsman for Children’s Rights in Poland. As an ombudsman for children’s rights, he created in his office a Commission on the codification of family law. He was also the initiator of the launch of the free national line “Children’s Helpline”. He initiated the introduction of legal norms on the protection of children from sexual abuse and violence, as well as the ratification of international agreements on the rights of persons with disabilities and the protection of children. He was also the initiator of the creation, and then the coordinator of the Year of Janusz Korczak (2012) and the Year of Irena Sendler (2018). In 2018, he was elected President of the International Korczak Association.
